Mark 15:40-41
Find a way to separate yourself from whatever’s going on around you so you can fully enter into today’s passage. if you haven’t read the introduction to Mark’s Gospel, read it here.
Read Mark 15:40-41 carefully and slowly.
He gave them dignity and ascribed worth to them. He invited them to journey with him and learn from him along with the men. And now when everyone else abandons him, these women remain. They are followers of Jesus who have cared for him in life and followed him to his death, and they will continue to follow him even when the way is unclear.
Perhaps they truly listened and believed when he said that he would suffer and die but then be raised to life after three days. Regardless of what else they understand, they know what Jesus did for them. So they stay and they wait.
Take a moment to be quiet and imagine that you are seeing yourself through Jesus’ eyes. What have you gained from following Jesus?
Imagine that Jesus calls you by name and chooses you to be with him. Imagine that he tells you that you are a child of the Most High King – a princess or a prince worthy of dignity and respect. Stay with this image for a few moments.
Read Mark 15:40-41 again adding your name to the list of those who stayed with Jesus as he was crucified.
What do you want to say to Jesus right now?
Get quiet again and simply listen for a moment or two. If you sense Jesus saying anything to you, write it down.
As you end this time of reflection, think of something you can do to remind yourself of Jesus’ love for you throughout the day today.
