Matthew 18:12-14
Find a place and time free of distractions for the next 7-10 minutes. Sit comfortably and breathe deeply for a few seconds before you begin. As you breathe in, say the name of Jesus and become aware of his presence with you. As you breathe out, open your mind and heart to receive whatever Jesus has for you today.
Take time to read back over Matthew 18:1-10 before you read today’s passage, Matthew 18:12-14. (Verse 11 is not included in many original manuscripts.)
If you have committed your life to Jesus, you were, at some point in your life, “the one.” Jesus sought you out and brought you home. You were the “little one” that received life and light through the love and persistence of Jesus.
Get still and take a few deep breaths. Begin focusing on the name of Jesus as you breathe.
When you feel still and centered, ask Jesus to guide your thoughts, and then take a few moments to think back to your spiritual journey. Don’t try to force the memories, just let them come. Notice if you find points in time when you recognize that Jesus was “searching” for you.
Before you go on, say what is on your heart and mind to Jesus.
Read Matthew 18:12-14 again.
When you turned to Jesus and gave him your life, he didn’t just take it in stride. He rejoiced.
Stop to think about that. Imagine Jesus finding you and taking you into his arms. Sit with this image for a moment letting Jesus’ joy pour over you.
When you are ready, listen again to these words from Jesus as if he were speaking them directly to you:
“In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.”
Now get quiet for a moment and just listen.
What might Jesus be saying to you or asking you to do today?
How will you respond to him?
