Mark 8:22-26
Find a way to separate yourself from whatever’s going on around you so you can fully enter into today’s passage. if you haven’t read the introduction to Mark’s Gospel, read it here.
Read Mark 8:22-26 focusing in on Jesus’ actions in this healing.
Jesus is obviously not looking for fame, or he could have healed in full sight of the onlookers and passersby. He leads this blind man away from curious eyes and heals in private. Jesus gets personal and proximate with people in need.
Jesus is also not a magician following a magic formula to heal. Each time he heals, it’s as if he is watching and listening for guidance beyond himself. And this healing is not instantaneous. There is a progression in the restoration of the blind man’s sight. Mark doesn’t tell us if this is a matter of the man’s faith or if it’s just how Jesus is led to heal him, but the result is that his sight is fully restored.
Read Mark 8:22-26 again imagining yourself as the blind man.
Jesus is near to you now. Spend a moment in silence and then share your deepest need with him (or the deepest need of which you are presently aware).
Do you believe that Jesus is able to care for you in the way you need? What if his care looks different than what you expect?
Take some time talking with Jesus about your faith in him. Ask him to show you how you can better trust him to do what is best for you. Write down anything that comes to mind and make a plan for acting on it.
End your time by thanking Jesus for his personal love and care for you.
