The Gospel of Luke
Luke was a doctor and may have been a Gentile. He wrote his Gospel in letter form to provide an “accurate account (Luke 1:3, NLT)” to a person identified only as Theophilus. Luke most likely researched and interviewed the people who had actually walked with and followed Jesus during his time on earth, so from Luke we get details of happenings that would have been known only by those who experienced them. From Luke, we learn what the angel said when he visited Mary and told her she would be the mother of Jesus. And from Luke we learn that Mary had the habit of reflecting deeply on things (Luke 2:19). In addition to his desire for accuracy, Luke wanted his readers to understand that Jesus was the Savior.
