Luke 12:27-31
Find a place and time free of distractions for the next 7-10 minutes. Take a moment to settle into your surroundings and then begin to recognize your breath. As you breathe in, call on the name of Jesus and become aware of his presence with you. As you breathe out, open your mind and heart to receive whatever Jesus has for you today.
In today’s passage Jesus continues to reassure his disciples of God’s care for them. If you haven’t already, read Luke 12:22-26 and then read today’s passage, Luke 12:27-31 imagining that you are among the disciples hearing this firsthand.
When you understand who God is and how much God cares for you, you can begin to focus on more than just your basic needs. Instead of scurrying through life attempting to secure your future – whether that be the rest of the day or the rest of your life – focusing on God and God’s Kingdom frees you to see the larger picture of life in all its fullness. When your focus shifts, you begin to experience, rather than just manage, life.
Stop and let the presence of God settle on you. Feel the weight of God’s presence as you notice how you are embodied in the space you are occupying. When you feel ready, consider how much you truly believe that God cares for you and will provide for you. Share your honest thoughts about this with God.
Read Luke 12:27-31 again stopping to notice any words or phrases that grab your attention.
When your focus shifts to God and God’s Kingdom, you will naturally want to help others make the shift as well. Not only will you be inspired to invite others to a bigger experience of life, you will also be more likely to want to share the good gifts God has given you. And in this way, God will work through your generosity to provide the basic needs of under-resourced people around you so they, too, can look up and see the goodness of God.
For the final moments of this time of reflection, meditate on these words of Jesus:
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.”
What do you most need from God today? Share this with Jesus and then listen to him.
How is Jesus calling you to “seek the Kingdom of God above all else” today?
How will you respond?
